June 2010: Launch of South London Parent Forum
Options 4 Change Lambeth has launched its first Parent Forum aimed at working with parents in south London.
The South London Parent Forum is essentially a project for parents who play an integral part in society; our message is simple Every Parent Matters. This message encapsulates the importance and relevance of parents as individuals and as guardians of their children. As a result, the forum will bring parents to the forefront of political, social and cultural agendas to discuss, support and empower parents in our communities.
The event, is therefore calling on support from statutory and professional organisations and individuals to come and share this vision as we strive to transform our communities and a cohesive society.
The South London Parent Forum held on the first Tuesday of each month focuses on a variety of current parental issues relevant to equipping, supporting and empowering parents.
Options 4 Change is a specialist grassroots youth organisation that is part of the UK wide national franchise of the Black Boys Can network. The charity is passionate about supporting disengaged youths from seven to 19 years from ethnic minorities and re-engaging them back into main stream society by providing various innovative initiatives that are aimed at encapsulating its slogan of “Changing Minds & Lives for the Better”. This belief is gained through the promotion of partnership work to develop disengaged communities; working closely with young people on activities that will enhance access to educational resources and through peer-to-peer mentoring; providing personal development programmes to individuals through either one-to-one support or in workshops and providing advocacy support to challenge inequalities.
